After several days of rumors, the news became official on Thursday night: Western Illinois head coach Jim Molinari is resigning.

“Having known Coach Molinari for more than 20 years and watched his incredible basketball career and accomplishments he had at Western Illinois University, we wish him continued success and the best of luck,” athletic director Tommy Bell said in a statement. “We thank him for his service to our institution. He will be missed.”

Molinari is rumored to be under serious consideration for an assistant coach spot on Tim Miles' staff at Nebraska.

Associate head coach Wade Hokenson will serve as acting head coach at Western Illinois.

Molinari was at Western Illinois for six seasons, finishing with a 79-104 record. The Leathernecks went 10-20 this past season.
