Maine has announced it will be finding a new head coach.

The school opted to buy out the remaining two years of Ted Woodward's contract. His final day was Monday.

"The decision was reached after several weeks of evaluation of the program by director of athletics Karlton Creech and university administration," according to the school's press release.

Woodward's been a part of the program for nearly two decades, serving as head coach since 2004-05, spending the eight years prior on the bench as an assistant. Before that, he was an assistant at Harvard and Central Connecticut State.

"I would like to thank Ted for his service to the University of Maine, the last 18 years as both a head coach and an assistant," Creech said. "Ted's commitment to the University of Maine and its student-athletes — both athletically and academically — have been the trademark of his tenure here."

Woodward went 117-178 as Black Bears coach. The school went 6-23 last season. The program has never reached the NCAA Tournament.
