Gonzaga signs Arvydas Sabonis' son, Domantas Sabonis

The spawn of an all-time basketball great is headed to Gonzaga.

The school has announced the signing of Domantas Sabonis, son of Hall of Famer Arvydas Sabonis. Domantas previously played with Spain's Unicaja Málaga team. He is 17, a 6-foot-10 tweener forward and considered one of the better teenage players from Europe.

The reason he's able to come stateside from Spain lies in the fact he never signed a contract/earned money while playing hoops overseas. So this move falls within NCAA guidelines.

Sabonis will boost a Gonzaga team that we already think is top-20 good for next season.

“Domas is a skilled basketball player who should have an immediate impact on our program. We're excited to have the opportunity to allow him to continue his development as a basketball player while continuing his education,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said in a statement.

The Bulldogs' front line will also have Polish center Przemek Karnowski, Luke Mielke and Kentucky transfer Kyle Wiltjer. Gonzaga finished 29-7 last season and lost in the Round of 32 to top-seeded Arizona.
