Tennessee and Butler agree to home-and-home series

By Matt Norlander | College Basketball Writer

Tennessee is wasting little time in varying up its schedule.

You could say the same of Butler.

The two schools announced on Tuesday that they've agreed to a home-and-home series for 2014 and 2015. Tennessee will host first, playing against the Bulldogs at Thompson-Boling Arena on Dec. 14. Butler will return the favor by welcoming in the Vols to Hinkle Fieldhouse on Dec. 12, 2015.

Tennessee last week hired Southern Miss coach Donnie Tyndall. Tyndall came in less than a week removed from former Vols coach Cuonzo Martin leaving the job to take a gig at Cal.

Butler is in rebuilding mode, as it just finished a 14-17 season under first-year head coach Brandon Miller. Miller succeeded Brad Stevens, who now coaches the Boston Celtics. The Bulldogs also have one year of Big East membership behind them.

Tennessee notes the Vols and Bulldogs "are two of only 13 programs in the nation to make at least four NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances in the last eight seasons."

Also on Tennessee's schedule next season: at North Carolina State; playing in the Old Spice Classic (which includes Kansas, Marquette, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Rider, Santa Clara and Xavier); and a Big 12 program yet to be named is slated to be on the schedule as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
