One of the more significant transfers within the ACC became known on Tuesday when's Gary Parrish reported that Georgia Tech is losing Robert Carter Jr.

Georgia Tech subsequently confirmed the news with a release.

"I would like to thank Robert for his time here at Georgia Tech, he has represented our program well," Tech coach Brian Gregory said in a statement. "Although this is disappointing, we wish him the very best in his continued career.

Playing power forward, Carter Jr. averaged 11.4 points and 8.4 boards last season, but also missed 10 games to a torn left meniscus. He was key to Georgia Tech's front line -- and now he's on the market.

Losing any players at this point or beyond is tough for teams, and Carter Jr. will certainly be coveted by plenty. He is from Thomasville, Ga., and considered Florida and Georgia in 2012 before opting for Gregory's Yellow Jackets.

"Transferring has become commonplace; it is now part of the culture and fabric of the college basketball landscape," Gregory said. "You have to move on and keep building. Our returning players are poised to have exceptional seasons and we are excited about our incoming class and their ability to positively impact our program."

Georgia Tech is also losing Solomon Poole, a junior shooting guard, to transfer.
