Indiana to name ex-Marist coach Chuck Martin to assistant post

By Jon Rothstein | CBS Sports

Indiana's Tom Crean will hire former Marist head coach Chuck Martin as an assistant, sources told CBSSports.com.

Martin will replace Kenny Johnson, who left after the season to take a similar position at Louisville.

Martin served as head coach at Marist from 2008-2013, and was fired after going 41-117 in five years. He was also a key assistant under John Calipari at Memphis from 2006-2008. A New York native, Martin spent two years with the Tigers under Calipari, and was a part of a staff that won 38 games and lost in 2008 national title game to Kansas.

Martin spent last season as a scout with the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder.

Indiana finished 17-15 last season and was passed over for the NIT.
