Former Big 12 rivals Mizzou and Oklahoma State to play next season

It's not the Jayhawks, but Missouri fans will be happy to know a former Big 12 foe has agreed to play the Tigers again.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will take on Mizzou on Dec. 30 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The two teams go back to the days of the Big Eight. They've faced 118 times in the past 88 years, Missouri owning the Pokes 77-41.

The most recent meeting came in Missouri's final year as a Big 12 resident, in 2012, when the Tigers won 88-70. That was the season Frank Haith took Missouri to a No. 2 seed in the NCAAs but fell to Norfolk State in the Round of 64.

Haith left the Tigers for a job at Tulsa in April. Kim Anderson is now the Grand Poobah at Mizzou. This will be an interesting one, as OSU coach Travis Ford will have a challenge next season. Remember, Marcus Smart, Markel Brown and LeBryan Nash are all gone off last year's NCAA Tournament team.

This meeting in KC will be the 15th time the two have played on a neutral court in the City of Fountains. Mizzou's won nine of the 14 games in Kansas City against OSU and has won their past six games against all competition at the Sprint Center.

"In joining the Southeastern Conference two years ago, we talked about our commitment to our fans throughout Missouri, and in particular, our fans in Kansas City," Mizzou AD Mike Alden said in a statement. "We have tremendous fan support in this part of the state, and it is critically important to us as a University to have a strong presence in Kansas City."

Missouri went 23-12 last season, making the NIT. Oklahoma State fell as a No. 8 seed to Gonzaga in the Round of 64 in the NCAAs.

"What a special game for the fans and former players of both universities," Anderson said. "I remember playing Oklahoma State in Kansas City twice while I was in school and those were two great games. Our two universities share great history with one another and conference affiliation isn't going to change that fact. Obviously KC is very special to us and plays a major part in who we are as a university and as a basketball program."
