Back in May, Charlotte head coach Alan Major suddenly announced that he was taking a leave of absence to concentrate on his health.

Major planned to undergo eye and heart procedures while taking a break from coaching.

On Thursday afternoon, the school provided an update on Major's status:

Charlotte 49ers men's basketball coach Alan Major, who is in the midst of a medical leave of absence, had his first eye surgery in early June. He is still in the recovery process from that surgery.

He will have a heart procedure done in mid-July. In early August he will have surgery on his other eye.

He is in good spirits and is progressing well following his first procedure.

Coach Major looks forward to returning and he appreciates all the well wishes he has received from the 49ers family and Niner Nation.

Charlotte went 17-14 last season. Major is 61-63 in four seasons with the 49ers.
