Charleston launches second investigation into Wojcik

Latest in hoops: Latest News | Coaching Changes | Recruiting

College of Charleston president Glenn McConnell has ordered a second investigation into men's basketball coach Doug Wojcik based on new allegations of a physical confrontation and verbal abuse, a source told CBSSports.com.

One of the new allegations is connected to a physical confrontation between Wojcik and former Charleston guard Trevonte Graham, according to The Post and Courier. This development is troubling for the embattled coach because it represents "new" information and could theoretically provide Charleston with what it needs to fire Wojcik for cause.

CBSSports.com reported last month that it was "becoming increasingly unlikely that Wojcik will survive" these allegations after a 50-page report detailing the school's first investigation was released. The only issue, sources told CBSSports.com at the time, was that Charleston officials were worried about whether they could fire Wojick for cause after previously punishing him less severely because Wojcik had already formally accepted the previous penalties that came as a result of the first investigation. But these new allegations were enough, a source told CBSSports.com, to launch a new investigation, and the school could choose to deliver new penalties -- possibly termination.

Either way, sources have told CBSSports.com that it remains unlikely Wojcik will ever coach again at Charleston even though he has no plans to resign and forfeit the remaining $1.2 million on his contract. Odds are, he'll either reach an agreement to resign or Charleston will eventually fire him for cause and let lawyers handle it from there, if necessary.

Wojcik is 38-29 overall in two seasons at Charleston.

He previously coached seven seasons at Tulsa without making the NCAA Tournament.
