With Rick Brunson out of mix, Temple names Aaron McKie assistant

By Jon Rothstein | CBS Sports

Temple's Fran Dunphy has hired former NBA guard Aaron McKie as an assistant coach, sources told CBSSports.com on Thursday.

McKie will replace Dave Duke, who will be reassigned to Director of Player Development.

A standout guard for the Owls from 1991-94, McKie played 13 seasons in the NBA, most notably on the 2000-01 Philadelphia 76ers, for whom he won NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors that season. He also served as an assistant coach with the Sixers from 2007-2013, before being fired by coach Brett Brown.

Temple was expected to hire McKie's college teammate Rick Brunson to the same position -- in a move widely believed to be part of the Owls' recruitment of his son, Jalen Brunson -- but the elder Brunson was charged with sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse, aggravated battery and domestic battery stemming from an encounter with a massage therapist last month.

The Owls are still in the mix for Jalen Brunson, who according to 247Sports is the No. 2 point guard prospect in the Class of 2015.

Temple went 9-22 last season.
