UNLV guard Daquan Cook tears ACL, out for 2014-15 season

By Jeff Borzello | College Basketball Writer

UNLV loses all five starters from last season, and now the Runnin' Rebels will be without another rotation player for the upcoming campaign.

Daquan Cook suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and is out for the entire 2014-15 season.

“We feel terrible for Daquan,” head coach Dave Rice said in a release. “He is an important part of our program and will have our full support as he goes through this challenge.”

Cook will take a redshirt season for 2014-15, and will return in 2015-16 with two years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-1 point guard played in 28 games last season, earning two starts and averaging 1.8 points.

How much of an impact this injury has on UNLV will depend on whether both San Francisco transfer Cody Doolin and Rutgers transfer Jerome Seagears are eligible to play immediately. Doolin could be the missing piece for the Runnin' Rebels at the point guard position, while Seagears brings athleticism and defense. UNLV has talent on the wings in five-star freshman Rashad Vaughn and senior Jelan Kendrick, plus a trio of high-ceiling frontcourt players in Dwayne Morgan, Christian Wood and Goodluck Okonoboh.

UNLV went 20-13 last season.
