| What a game for Paulus, as he set a new career high with 25 points. Unfortunately for him and his Blue Devil teammates, he needed three more to come away with the victory. Paulus' point guard foe got the better of him tonight, as Maynor was the one who decided the game. All the credit in the world goes to VCU and their first-year head coach Anthony Grant, as they stuck to their game plan of trapping defense and three-point shooting to hang in this contest all night. They simply would not go away, and in the end, Duke wilted under the intense pressure of the VCU defense. The first upset of the day occurs a shade after 9:30 pm on the east coast, with 11th seeded Virginia Commonwealth knocking of the 6th seeded Duke Blue Devils. Goodnight for Buffalo! |

| Paulus' shot from just over half court glances off of the backboard harmlessly, and that is it! Virginia Commonwealth University has knocked off perennial power-house Duke, and now await the winner of the Pittsburgh-Wright State contest, which tips off at 10:10. |

| Nelson was able to get an uncontested lay up following Pellot-Rosa missing the second of his free throws. However, ice in the veins for Maynor, has he swished a long two to take the lead. Huge shot for the North Carolina native. |

| Scheyer has now left the game bleeding due to contact to his face after Maynor's lead-taking basket. That is a serious blow to Duke's perimeter shooting in the final minute. |

| A couple of missed three-pointers come up well short for both Scheyer and Nelson, an obvious sign of fatigue. Duke hasn't been able to post up McRoberts much in the second half, due to the trapping occurring on the perimeter. Femeni has now fouled out, and that will put an under-sized defender on McRoberts in the post. Duke needs to box out on the defensive end, as they are again getting man-handled by VCU on the offensive glass. |
