Postgame -
The way the game ended, with Belmont taking a late run to outscore Duke 35-29 in the second half, it seemed like the Blue Devils were the ones to pull off the upset by holding on for a one-point win. Belmont suffers a heart-breaker, although Henderson's final driving layup was in itself worthy of a Duke victory. Up next for Duke is a match-up against the winner of the West Virginia, Arizona game.
2nd Half - 0:00
The Bruins blow an inbounds pass when Renfroe makes perhaps his first mistake of the game. Renfroe throws to a spot that only a Blue Devils player can get to, resulting in a turnover. They still have a chance to win the game with a basket when Paulus misses his free throw for Duke, but Hare misses a running 3-pointer as the buzzer sounds. Duke wins 71-70.
2nd Half - 0:04
Henderson didn't have any luck on that hook shot, but goes right back for the bucket when he runs by one defender and slices through three more on his way to a finger-roll layup. That gives Duke the lead, but Belmont has the ball with four seconds left.
2nd Half - 0:47
15-seeds are 4-88 against two-seeds, with Belmont coach Rick Byrd comparing the possibilities of a Belmont upset of Duke to him beating Tiger Woods in golf. Against all odds, the Bruins are hanging on to a 70-69 lead after a Henderson hook shot rims out.
2nd Half - 2:02
The Bruins are second in the nation with 349 3-pointers this season, but after five long range shots in the first half, they were only 2-for-10 from beyond the arc to start the second. That changes when Wicke sinks a three to make it a one-point game. Belmont then takes the lead when Hare makes a pair of free throws, with the Bruins two minutes from their upset bid.
