Glog (Live Commentary)
Postgame -
South Alabama had a 23-22 lead 14 minutes deep into the first half, but that was when Campbell turned it on for Butler. From that point until halftime, Campbell scored 14 points, at one point making four 3-point attempts in a row. The Bulldogs never looked back from that moment, now able to look ahead to Tennessee in the second round.
Postgame -
Despite putting in their bench players in the final minutes of the blowout, the Bulldogs still finished with 49 percent shooting from the field and a 15-for-30 line from 3-point range. They were led by Campbell's 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting, eight of those from outside of the arc.
2nd Half - 0:00
It's a final here in Birmingham, although the game was decided long ago. The Butler Bulldogs defeat the South Alabama Jaguars by a score of 81-61 for a school record 30 wins and to extend their season for at least one more game.
2nd Half - 1:38
Although there was that exciting, back and forth first 10 minutes of the game, today's win came too easily for Butler. They'll advance to the second round for the fourth time in their last four tournament appearances, and should provide Tennessee with plenty of match-up problems.
2nd Half - 3:57
Middle Tennessee upset top-seeded South Alabama in the Sun Belt tournament to end the Jaguars bid for an automatic entry into the NCAA tournament. The Jaguars still were given a surprisingly high 10th-seed by the selection committee, although they've done nothing to prove that they are worthy. South Alabama is just going through the motions now, trailing by 26.
