Glog (Live Commentary)
Postgame -
After Georgetown opened the scoring with a pair of free throws, it was all Louisville. The team connected on its first nine field goal attempts and its first seven 3-point tries to build a big lead, a lead that allowed it to withstand a second-half comeback attempt by the Hoyas. The Cardinals earn their fourth consecutive win overall and its second straight on the road. The task was accomplished tonight with four players scoring in double figures, highlighted by Clark's 22 points and William's 10 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
2nd Half - 0:00
Louisville is one of four teams locked up atop the Big East standings, all with only two conference losses. Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Marquette are the other three contenders. The Cardinals keep the pressure on those other teams with a convincing win tonight, defeating the Hoyas by a final score of 76-58.
2nd Half - 0:52
There are plenty of reasons that Georgetown is losing the game: allowing Louisville to shoot 80 percent for the first 17 minutes, turning the ball over 15 times, or getting only 10 points from Monroe. But, the real standout has to be Summers, who has only four points and one field goal on eight attempts despite coming into the game as the team's leading scorer. Louisville's making enough of its free throws here to maintain the lead.
2nd Half - 1:48
Admirable effort by Georgetown in the second half, but the halftime deficit is proving too difficult to overcome. The Hoyas are trying to stay in postseason contention after losing eight of their last 10 games, but this loss should just about eliminate them from an extended season. They lose any chance at getting back into tonight's game by turning the ball over on the last two possessions.
2nd Half - 3:01
Georgetown refuses to go away and cuts the margin back down to 10 points when Wright gets ahead of the defense for a fast-break dunk. On the other end, Louisville refuses to allow the Hoyas to get too close, as Sosa answers for them by driving baseline for a reverse layup. It's been back and forth through the entire second half, but that pace favors the Cardinals, who still hold a generous lead.
