Glog (Live Commentary)
- Postgame
Illinois pulls away late, increasing their home win streak to to 12-straight against this Minnesota team. Mike Davis got on fire late, ending with 14 points and 10 rebounds. No one could find the basket early on, leading to an exciting finish for Illinois. Minnesota's Damian Johnson was the best players on the court tonight, despite it coming in a losing effort. Johnson scored 18 points on the offensive end, and had 3 blocks and 5 steals on the defensive end. He was just a monster on both ends of the court. No one else showed up for Minnesota though, giving Illinois plenty of chances to run away with the win. It took a while, but a 10-0 run to end the game gives the Fighting Illini the win.
2nd - 1:21
Mike Davis has made his presence known here in the 2nd half. He hits a lay-up to put the Fighting Illini up by nine, their biggest lead in the 2nd half so far. Davis is a very efficient scorer and a stud on the boards. He started slow tonight, but had made up for lost ground over the last couple minutes.
2nd - 3:12
Illinois is feeding off the crowd now. Trent Meacham hits a big three pointer, putting the Fighing Illini up by seven. While Meacham hasn't had a hot hand tonight, he hits them when they count most.
2nd - 5:33
Ralph Sampson finally starts contributing, scoring six of his eight points here in the 2nd half. Sampon is a long 6-11, with good hands and a nice floating shot. He has no outside shooting at all though, which is probably his biggest weakness. As of now, he's mostly been used as a defensive presence. The guy knows how to block a shot.
2nd - 7:26
Damian Johnson pushes back, bringing the Golden Gophers within three. On the other end, Johnson has three blocks and five steals. That is just ridiculous. With Johnson shooting over 50% from the field, you can see just how bad the rest of this Minnesota team has been offensively. They really need to start making shots. All else considered, Minnesota should be running away with this game.
