2nd Half - 0:00
The final buzzer sounds on a game that was decided long ago, giving the Memphis Tigers a 89-70 victory over the Maryland Terrapins. The Tigers dominated throughout, using a 15-0 run in the opening minutes to build a lead they would never give up. They led by 20 at the break and by as much as 29 in the second half before finally letting up in the late stages. They move on to the Sweet 16 to take on the winner of the Marquette-Missouri matchup.
2nd Half - 1:03
It's hard to choose one player of the game, what with the wealth of options the Tigers present. Taggart has a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Dozier put up 17 points, many on vicious dunks. Anderson has 11 assists and Mack connected on five 3-pointers. But, the most dominating presence when Memphis was pushing out to an early lead was Evans, who finishes with 19 points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.
2nd Half - 2:57
Maryland's on a mini run here, but that's because Memphis has already turned its attention to the Marquette-Missouri pairing tomorrow afternoon in Boise. The Golden Eagles pulled off a squeaker against Utah State just to advance while Mizzou rolled to an easy win over Cornell. The way the Tigers are playing today, it looks as if they can beat just about any team in the next round.
2nd Half - 5:16
Anderson's been busy dishing out 11 assists, so he doesn't get his first points of the day until capping off a fast break created by an Evans steal with a dunk. The Tigers have 21 assists on their 31 field goal, showing how efficiently they've been moving the ball and finding the open man. The lead grows to 29 at 86-57 after Mack drains a 3-pointer off a Dozier pass.
2nd Half - 7:59
Sallie becomes the fifth Tiger to get into double-digit scoring when he sinks a long jumper. He won't match the 35 points he scored in the first round, but he's contributed plenty off the bench as it is. For Maryland, things get even worse when Vasquez expresses his frustration by arguing a call and earning a technical.
