Postgame Report -
Pittsburgh advances with a spectacular performance from Sam Young. Young carried the scoring load for Pittsburgh with a few scoring surges from Gibbs and Levance Fields. Oklahoma State did not go down without a fight. They owned the three-point game with a 10-for-16 effort in the first half but they let game slip away with a series of scoring droughts to start the 2nd half. They came to life during the last minutes with a series of 7-0 scoring runs but Fields answered and the Panthers dominated the rebounding game, especially on the offensive glass. DeJuan Blair finished with just 10 points, most of which came from putbacks. The Cowboys did a good job of defending the passing lane but Pittsburgh just built around Sam Young and kept the game out of the Cowboys' reach in the 2nd half.
2nd Half - :31
Fields inbounds to Young. Young finds a hand hotter than his and shovels the ball back to Fields on the baseline for a three-pointer. After shooting 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first round. Fields is 3-for-7 and making them when they count. But last-second heroics is what got Eaton and the Cowboys into the 2nd round over Tennessee. Eaton cuts the lead to two but as Fields misses the opportunity to add to the lead, DeJuan Blair boxes out and gets his 10th point with an unstoppable putback. The Panthers have dominated the offensive glass.
2nd Half - 1:59
There's Sam Young with a trey after a pass by Fields through a double-team. The passing of Fields and Eaton have done so much to make this a high-scoring game. Marshall Moses, a 6-6 swingman doing his best impression of a center, cleans the offensive glass for a putback. But Fields answers with a powerful left-handed layup to keep the Panthers ahead.
2nd Half - 3:48
Sam Young misses a three-pointer but runs down court to swat away a Harris layup that could have been an And-1. Fun looking block but Harris makes his free throws to put the pokes within 4. Pittsburgh is still trying to slow the ball down. Way too slow but it's even worse to get too ambitious. Levance Fields throws the ball from one corner of the court to the other and over the head of Gibbs. Out-of-character play and Anderson takes advantage of it with a triple. A 9-0 Cowboy run to take the lead in a game that is coming down the final stretch! Pittsburgh started taking the air out of the ball when Oklahoma State shot 20% on the half, which is the right thing to do until the other team stops shooting 20%.
2nd Half - 5:20
Pittsburgh is getting fouls. 9-to-2 difference in team fouls with the Panthers attempted 15 more free throws but only made 14. But Eaton makes another beaming pass through the paint and through a few white uniforms for Obi Muonelo to get a layup. The shot selection is starting to come back.
