| The Gaels escape a scare in a hostile environment down in Santa Clara. That was the first marquee road win for the Gaels this season. They were led by Smith who knocked down the clutch free throws and had 16 points overall. Simpson was the only other Gael to reach double digits. Bryant had nearly half of the Broncos' points with 22 and 10 boards. Angley had 11 in the losing effort. 17 turnovers by the Broncos was the difference in the game. Also, they were 2-12 from downtown. Next up for Saint Mary's is a trip to Los Angeles to take on woeful Loyola-Marymount. Santa Clara is headed for Malibu to take on almost equally woeful Pepperdine on Saturday. St. Mary's escapes with the win and should remain in the top 25 if they can beat Loyola-Marymount on Saturday. |
