Postgame -
Budinger answered the call for his Arizona team and Hill stood out with 16 and 10, but the shooting of West Virginia was too much for anyone to handle. Even with superstar in the making Joe Alexander, having a sub-par outing, the combo of Alex Ruoff, Darris Butler and of course De'Sean Butler put together 54 points on 22-31 shooting. Wow! The Mountaineers will prepare for a struggling Duke squad in the second round. Get ready Coach K. Your going down. Thanks for joining me and come back tommorrow for some more great first round action. I'm out.
2nd Half - :39
It looks like free throws will surely come into play down the stretch. With Alexander having a less than stellar evening, Da'Sean Butler joins his teammate Nichols with 19 as well. Budinger hits 2 of 3 from the line and he has 23 to lead everybody. McClellan is whistled for the foul and Arizona simply doesn't have the depth to compete with a deep squad like the Mountaineers. Too much and too many from the Mountaineers. 75-65 WVU is victorious and will take on Duke in round 2.
2nd Half - 2:13
Ruoff has been the silent assassin tonight and connects on his 5th of seven shots from downtown to give him 19 on the night. If it isn't Ruoff doing the damage, it's his partner in crime Darris Nichols doing the deed from long range. He is 4 of 6 from no man's land and the lead is back up to a half dozen. 69-63
2nd Half - 3:40
Bayless puts in a three of his own, but Darris Nichols cancels it out with his answer from the top of the key. Bayless just misses on a tough reverse drive and both sides get a breather with a television timeout. 63-59 Mountaineers holding off the attack.
2nd Half - 4:57
Ruoff with another bad miss, as his shot has fallen of the face of the earth in the last few minutes. Alexander picks up the costly fourth foul as Budinger heads to the line. He heads to the bench and now is the time to strike for the Wildcats. Smith gets hammered on the drive, but can't convert the three point play. Nic Wise saves the day in the form of a long corner three. The play looked broken, but they never give up. 60-57 Arizona charging fast.
