Rose closes it out with a career high 27, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in the lopsided victory. But Chris Douglas-Roberts and Antonio Anderson's defense set the pace early on for Memphis. Suton and Chris Allen combined for 43 and 14, but noone else decided to show up for the Spartans. Tigers hold on and hold of the Spartans. Memphis in the Elite Eight once again! Thanks for coming out for some great NCAA tournament action. Next round Sunday!
2nd Half - :00
Neitzel finally gets a rest from the handcuffs of Antonio Anderson, and makes the most of the opportunity with his first and only make of the day. Coach Izzo should end his night on that high note to protect the young shooters surely bruised ego. Douglas-Roberts joins his partner in crime D-Rose in the 20+ scoring club. His lucky 21 played a big part in the Tigers dominance tonight. Neitzel stays put and lets one fly from almost half court and it finds it's way home. Too little, too late. 92-74 Tigers win.
2nd Half - 1:56
Neitzel remains 0 for the night with another ugly miss from downtown. Douglas-Roberts has had a hard time missing and connects again to give him 19 before he takes a seat on the bench, probably for the remainder of the game. The Tigers really are 10-12 deep and the bench is really stepping it up in the closing minutes, 83-66.
2nd Half - 4:20
The Tigers have to revert back to their first half defensive pattern and shut down the lanes of traffic. Rose starts the break and then finishes it too, and has 22 to lead all. Chris Allen has single handedly shot his team back into the game, as he connects on another trey to give him 18 and the lead is down a reachable 15, down from 34 just over ten minutes ago, 73-58.
2nd Half - 7:11
We get an explanation of why Rose has remained absent from the action. He finally checks back in, but with a big bandage over his right eye. I didn't see it happen, but it must be a bleeder. He hits at the line and has already eclipsed his tournament average of 17 per contest. Allen is doing everything in his power to bring his team back into contention, but the hole is clearly too big to climb out of. Rose has no ill effects from the eye injury and tips it up and in, 69-49. Memphis settles down for the road home.
