Postgame -
Nikola Dragovic rounded out the double-digit scorers for UCLA with 11 bench points but the rest of the Bruins reserves combined to go just 0-of-4 from the field and 0-of-2 from the free throw line for the game. Michael Roll did help out with five rebounds but, in the end, the lack of offensive diversity from UCLA was too much of an obstacle for the Bruins to overcome.
Postgame -
The Bruins received double-digit scoring efforts from Collison, Holiday and Dragovic, but Dragovic was the only UCLA player to score off the bench. Collison registered 13 points, five assists and three rebounds, while Holiday Holiday collected 13 points of his own, adding two boards and two assists.
Postgame -
Manny Harris chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds for the Wolverines, who shot 4-of-9 from three-point range in the second half. That helped Michigan climb back within striking distance early in the second half after shooting a hopeless 1-of-11 from downtown in the first half. Stu Douglass added 10 points and three rebounds while leading the Wolverines in assists with four.
Postgame -
The Wolverines (3-0) trailed throughout the first half as they struggled to knock down any shots. But a 10-2 run early in the second half brought Michigan within two and the Wolverines would never trail by more than that margin the rest of the way. Michigan shot 13-of-21 from the floor in the second half, led by 18 points and 5 rebounds from DeShawn Sims.
Postgame -
So the dream matchup of two top-five teams in the tournament final won't happen after all as Michigan joins No. 5-ranked Duke in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic tournament final. UCLA will likely drop in next week's polls after sliding into the third-place game against Southern Illinois.
