Postgame -
Even though they stunned Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin in last year's tournament, Davidson has a lot to learn before they get the respect of the Nation's elite. One thing that Coach McKillop can be very proud of is the fact that he has graduated all 95 if his senior ballers during his tenure at the top. Thank you for sticking with me for some mildly entertaining afternoon NCAA action and please keep coming back for more. For those of you who are living under a rock and missed the NBA action last night, D-Wade and the Heat upset Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in Miami. Happy Holidays and go Heat!!
Postgame -
Just in case you weren't around from the start of this debacle, it was clearly over before it even began. A 25-2 run out the gates for the Boilermakers and the young Davidson Wildcats weren't able to overcome. Robbie Hummel had an enormous first half and finished the day with the games only double-double. 18 points and 14 rebounds paced both categories and 3 more followed suit with double-digits for Purdue. Chris Kramer held the NCAA's leading scorer in check for almost the entire game, and those are the stats that don't make it to the papers. Curry will watch his average plummet, and hopefully the Wildcats won't fall out of the top 25.
2nd Half - :00
Chris Kramer has been all over the floor with a devastating defensive display. Only 5 points in the second half for Curry and he passes up on another open look? The Boilermakers have written this one off and let open the gates for Allison to walk down the lane. 7 rebounds for Curry, but he follows the offensive board with an ugly miss up close. Final Score: Purdue Boilermakers 76 - Davidson Wildcats 58.
2nd Half - 3:21
Only a pair of field goals for Purdue in the last 7 minutes and they are seemingly inviting the Wildcats back into the game. Archambault connects from downtown for the second time, but the lead seems to stay steadily out of reach. Curry has to make his move right about now if he wants to be spoken of as one of the NCAA greats. Kramer has had the defensive stranglehold on Curry all day long, but Coach Painter would love to see more from his offensive game.
2nd Half - 6:47
Coach McKillop's son Brendan has provided a nice spark off the bench and has earned every minute of playing time this year. No nepotism to been seen, but even an overactive shooting guard with three point range won't be enough to climb back from the abyss. Just as it looks like Davidson is on the verge of a run, Grant reacquires his range and deposits a three to the floor. Andrew Lovedale gets loose on the tracks for the runaway slam, but still a 16 point advantage with less than 7 minutes to play.
