Postgame -
St. John's win this afternoon in Madison Square Garden proves that the Big East just might be the most competitive conference in the NCAA. There are seven Big East teams in the Top 25 and the Red Storm just beat one of them to prove that they won't be pushovers. The accomplishment was made possible by Kennedy's 20 points, nine rebounds, and three assists and Burrell's 18 points and six boards.
2nd Half - 0:00
Kennedy sinks a couple free throws, sealing an upset victory for the Red Storm. Harangody follows that by fouling out, ending a 28 points, 14 rebounds effort in a losing cause. The game winds down to all zeroes, signally St. John's 71-65 win over Notre Dame.
2nd Half - 0:17
Ryan Ayers has two straight open looks from 3-point range, but he misses them both. The Irish are only 3-of-15 from outside the arc after coming into the game known as an outside shooting team. They have to foul now, but Burrell misses his one free throw for the Red Storm. Follow that with a successful 3-pointer by Jackson and Notre Dame is still in it, trailing by just two points.
2nd Half - 0:39
Burrell draws a foul on Harangody and sinks both free throws, giving St. John's a 67-62 lead with seconds to play. Notre Dame's going to have to score quickly and then get a defensive stop.
2nd Half - 0:39
From the top of the arc, Horne finds the lane abandoned by Notre Dame and drives in for a wide open layup. St. John's takes a three-point lead with time running out. They have the ball with the chance to take a two-possession lead.
