Postgame -
The Tarheels took advantage of the horrible outside shooting of the Cavs and the first unit outscored their opposition by over 30 points on the night. Only 31% managed from the floor and Virginia draws even at 7-7 overall and 1-2 in ACC play. More than double the amount of free throws, so the officials certainly played a part, but Virginia was in desperation mode most of the night. UNC simply outclassed their talent thin opponent and rose from last week's ashes to reclaim their crown as one of the best of the best of the best. Thanks for sticking with me and don't miss the Bruins hosting the Arizona Wildcats in LA.
Postgame -
This one had blowout written all over from the start, with the Tar Heels traveling up the Atlantic coast for prime time match up with the absolutely average Virginia Cavaliers. Tyler Hansbrough held his own throughout with 28, 12 and a pair of big blocks and if he can average 24 points per game from here on out, he can overtake J.J. Reddick as the most prolific scorer in the history of the Atlantic Coast Conference. He catapulted himself past the much maligned Christian Laettner, for sole possession of 6th place All-Time.
2nd Half - :00
The Tar Heels finally get that that evasive first ACC win out of the way, and they do so in fantastic fashion. They leaped out to a 12-2 advantage and never even considered taking a look in the rear view. Final Score from John Paul Jones Arena: North Carolina Tar Heels 83 - Virginia Cavaliers 61 in the home court defeat.
2nd Half - 1:11
No slowing for Hansbrough as sitting the superstar seems to out of the question for the time being. More transition success for Carolina and Lawson lets loose to give him 19 on the night. #50 has taken all the lumps and continues to come out on top. He loses the rebound to his teammate and adds insult to injury with only his 3rdf triple of the year. Step back and pop and that should be all she wrote for Big Ty. 28 and 12 for the future first round pick, but I still question his next-level success. Only time will tell.
2nd Half - 4:03
Sammy Zeglinski seems to have nothing left underneath to launch the rocket and the Tar Heels are off to races once again. Roy Williams has carried the Dean Smith torch with grace and guile, leading his teams to win at an 82% pace through out his already storied tenure. Hansbrough has the games only double-double with 25 and 11 rebounds, but Ellington is close on his Heels with his 8th of the night off the glass.
