Postgame -
The road does not get easier for the Irish as the next play on Monday night against Marquette. For the Huskies, they will next play against DePaul on Wednesday night in Chicago.
Postgame -
The Connecticut Huskies handily defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a game that was not as close as the 69-61 final indicates. The Huskies out rebounded the Irish 47 to 36. In addition, the Huskies were able to force 16 more fouls which led to a 15-3 free throw scoring advantage. This easily was the deciding factor that helped to offset the three-point scoring advantage that the Irish had (24-18).
2nd Half - 1:03
Even as Notre Dame tries their best to come back with the "Hack the Huskies" tactic, it appears as if it is not enough. The problem for the Irish is this 'simple' - there has not been anyone else, aside from Jackson, who can help Harangody with scoring. The main weakness tonight for the Irish was McAlarney as he was only 3 for 17 from the field, including a stretch of 14 missed shots in a row.
2nd Half - 2:50
Notre Dame is down to its last lifelines as their 45-game winning streak appears to be coming to a screeching halt. UConn has extended their lead to a game high 12 points as the tempo is back to UConn's liking. In their last possession, they used the 35 second clock, shot, got the offensive rebound, used the 35 second clock again, and scored. If that didn't break the Irish hearts, it might have come close.
2nd Half - 4:32
Time is ticking and Connecticut is holding the pink slip to the Irish's 45-game winning streak as they lead by ten points on the strength of an 8-0 run. The Irish have some issues to deal with as they have rode Harangody's offense throughout the second half. They need to get McAlarney to get going and find another scorer so that Harangody can continue to contribute without as much pressure.
