Postgame -
California shot 9-for-15 from downtown with a 21-point 2nd half performance from Theo Robertson. But the Golden Bears couldn't hold onto the ball. UCLA was aggressive on the loose balls and the dribbles as they finished tonight with 16 steals. It wasn't just a matter of who committed turnovers but what you did with the turnovers. UCLA owned the fast break, got more points in the paint, and burned California with points-off-turnovers. Darren Collison lead the Bruins to a series of impressive scoring runs like a 20-2 run. Also the Bruin defense forced his rival Jerome Randle to commit more turnovers than assists. Collison finished with 5 steals and looked to the basket everytime he snatched the ball. While California forced turnovers and got a few steals, they just couldn't take advantage.
2nd Half - 1:48
Omondi Amoke gets the ball downlow for an easy layup only to get stripped by Jrue Holiday who gets to the line. 15 steals for the Bruins. This defense is playing very well even when Cal is shooting 8-for-14 from downtown as Patrick Christopher sinks his 1st trey in 4 attempts. Now the Bruins are going for some clock ball but the Golden Bears aren't giving up as Theo Robertson makes another triple. 4-for-4 for the half. He's been great but since halftime it's been too-little-too late. All of Robertson's 19 points have been in the 2nd half. Josh Shipp is the 5th Bruin in double digits.
2nd Half - 3:38
Jrue Holiday is the 4th bruin to score in double digits as he makes an excellent cut inside for a score. The Bruins are just owning the paint as well as the passing lanes and everything not related to three-point shooting. On that play, Randle gets whistled for his 4th foul.
2nd Half - 5:45
Jrue Holiday just took the ball behind his back and dribbled into Kamp. Kamp gets plowed into the ground as Robertson goes above the rim for a two-handed brouhaha. Just an absolutely nasty-looking play. But Theo Robertson cuts the lead to just 15 with an And-1. UCLA turns the ball over as Shipp commits an offensive foul. Will Cal take advantage?
2nd Half - 6:45
Collison is driving at will and Seeley does not have the time establish position. Collison's layups are looking good as he's now 8-for-13. While the Golden Bears need to shoot better, they're going nowhere if Collison can continue to beat them off the dribble like that. But if one thing is going for Cal it's that Randle has another assist after finding Robertson for a similar trey. Robertson is 3-for-3 from downtown this half.
