Postgame -
This was a horrible night for the Illini. They finished the game 28.3 percent from the field and 2-for-18 from 3-point range. They were pushed around on the boards, losing the battle 42-25. This loss alone should drop them out of the top 25 and maybe get the Gophers back on it.
2nd Half - 0:00
The final buzzer sounds at Williams Arena, signaling a dominating victory by the Minnesota Golden Gophers. They defeat the Illinois Fighting Illini 59-36 behind Westbrook's game-high 15 points, a strong effort on the boards, and a defense that held the opposition to under 30 percent shooting from the field.
2nd Half - 1:36
Even with the game in hand, Minnesota isn't slowing down. An offensive rebound, its 15th, allows Sampson to get a pass from Nolen for a dunk. That's followed by back-to-back fast break scores by the Gophers that opens the lead to 21 points. It seems as if they're releasing the entirety of their frustration built through a 20-game losing streak to the Illini out on this one game.
2nd Half - 3:42
The Illini entered the game with nearly 70 points a contest, but they're not going to even approach that mark tonight, with only 36 points and under four minutes to play. Their previous season low came in a 48-44 win over Tulsa on Nov. 29.
2nd Half - 4:17
Illinois is on a bit of a run, scoring seven of the last nine points to cut the deficit to 13. It comes to a dead stop when Westbrook uses a crossover to free himself of the defender before hitting on a 3-point jumper. Minnesota is back in front 50-36 in a game it has in control.
