2nd Half - 0:00
The game ends with North Carolina cruising to a 76-61 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers but the score does not reflect the way the Tarheels dominated the second half. They outscore the Cavaliers 20-9 early in the second half on their way to the win. With the win, the Tarheels are tied with Duke with a 7-2 record. More importantly, this sets up a first-place showdown between two of the best teams in college basketball on Tobacco Road as North Carolina and Duke will face off for the first time.
2nd Half - 3:55
You always knew that you could not keep the Tarheels away from the offensive scoring as they continue scoring at will. Even as Virginia are scoring three's, Carolina continues to come down and score at will. Now, with the game well in hand, the subs are playing some valuable minutes for Carolina as they will never know if they are going to be called upon to play against Duke on Wednesday.
2nd Half - 7:56
As North Carolina has pure control on this game, you figure that it will soon be time for the subs to get playing time as the starters should get as much rest as possible. In the upcoming horizon will be a show down against the Blue Devils of Duke and they will need all hands on deck for that one.
2nd Half - 9:54
North Carolina continues to play defense pretty well as they have now built their lead up to 55-37 with 9:54 to go in the game. So far, the Tarheels have concentrated on defeating the Cavaliers and not look too far forward. For Virginia, they must continue to play as well as possible on defense and find a way to put a run together to get back in the game.
2nd Half - 14:24
Sure enough, North Carolina came out running as they have now outscored Virginia 11-4 in the first 5 minutes plus of the second half on their way to a 44-29 lead. As Virginia called for a timeout, they have been outscored 20 to 6 since they had pulled to within 24-23 with four minutes left in the first half. Now, we come to a scheduled TV timeout with 14:10 remaining in the second half.
