WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) The Citadel scored the final eight points of the game, including six successive free throws in the last 25 seconds, to beat Army 69-62 on Saturday night.
Forward J'mel Everhart, who led the Bulldogs (1-1) with 17 points and eight rebounds, scored on a finger roll in the lane to put The Citadel ahead for good 63-62 with 55 seconds left.
Freshman guard Travis Smith had 16 points in his collegiate debut for the Bulldogs, hitting 6 of 9 from the floor and 4 of 7 from three-point range. The Citadel outrebounded the Black Knights 32-20.
Army (0-1), which led 33-26 at the half, got 17 points from Steve Stoll and 14 from Colin Harris.
