STANFORD, Calif. -- Anthony Goods had to excuse himself from the postgame news conference. His upset stomach was still troubling him.
Goods, who got sick during the first half, felt well enough to score 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting -- 5-of-6 from 3-point range -- in 16 minutes as No. 23 Stanford beat Harvard 111-56 in the Basketball Travelers Classic on Friday night.
"I feel OK ... now," Goods said. "I had some spicy Cajun chicken for dinner and it didn't stay down. I felt it just as the game started."
Goods helped Stanford open its season with the most points since the Cardinal scored 117 against UC Irvine in 1990, and the sixth-highest in school history. The 55-point margin of victory was the third-highest in Cardinal history.
"We got off to a good start and did everything well," Stanford coach Trent Johnson said of his veteran team. "Our first half was exceptional; one of the best halves we've played since I've been here."
The Cardinal shot 65 percent from the field, missing just seven shots in the second half. They also outrebounded the Crimson 50-19. The game got out of hand early as Stanford took a 28-7 lead less than 9 minutes in.
"They got out of the blocks very early and pounded the backboards on us," Harvard coach Tommy Amaker said. "It wasn't there for us tonight."
Drew Shiller added 18 points for Stanford (1-0), which improved to 9-0 against the Crimson all-time. The Cardinal last reached the century mark on Dec. 28, 2003, in a 100-59 victory over Harvard. Taj Finger scored 15 points for Stanford, while Josh Owens had 12 and Kenny Brown 11.
"We wanted to show our fans how hard we intend to play and how enthusiastic we're going to be this year," Finger said. "We didn't do that in our (exhibition) game."
Evan Harris scored 14 points for the Crimson (0-1) in Amaker's first game as Harvard's coach. Amaker, a four-year starter at Duke in the mid-80s, came to Harvard after six years at Michigan. Drew Housman added 10 points, all in the first half.
Shiller played his first game at Stanford, and his first since transferring from San Francisco after the 2005-06 season.
Stanford played without 7-footer Brook Lopez, who is academically ineligible. The Cardinal still had too much firepower for the Crimson, who haven't had a winning season since 2001-02.
"This team has the best approach to the game of any team I have had," Johnson said. "They are very consistent and disciplined in how they approach each game. This is a veteran group."
Owens, the only freshman on the Cardinal roster, hit a putback with 6:29 remaining to put Stanford over the century mark.
Crimson guard Jeremy Lin played high school ball at Palo Alto, across the street from Stanford's football stadium. He had family and friends at the game wearing "The Jeremy Lin Show" T-shirts.
Stanford led 63-28 at halftime after going 7-of-11 from 3-point range.
It was the most points Stanford scored in any half since getting 65 in the first half at home against New Hampshire on Dec. 29, 1999.
