Carroll scores 29 points to lift Mizzou past No. 19 USC

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- DeMarre Carroll had 29 points and 11 rebounds Sunday to help Missouri pull away for an 83-72 victory over No. 19 Southern California in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip Off.

J.T. Tiller added 14 points and Leo Lyons finished with 13 for the Tigers (4-1), who shot 55 percent and outscored the Trojans 46-29 in the second half.

"I thought we had a great all-around effort today and DeMarre sure made a lot of plays to keep us going against a good USC team," coach Mike Anderson said. "Our bench played excellent and really allowed us to impose our style late in the game, during some crucial minutes."

Dwight Lewis scored 15 for USC (3-2), which went 15-of-28 from the free-throw line. Taj Gibson added 11 points and eight rebounds and Daniel Hackett also had 11 points, but committed eight of Southern Cal's 19 turnovers.

Gibson's dunk gave the Trojans a 53-43 lead with 15:31 left in the second half, but the Tigers responded with a 12-2 run. Carroll made two 3-pointers and Lyons had four points in the spurt.

Missouri put together another 12-2 run to take an 80-69 lead with 2:33 remaining. Tiller started the surge with two free throws and finished it with a three-point play.

Tiller and Carroll each went 3-for-3 from 3-point range for the Tigers, who went 7-for-19 from behind the arc and shot 49 percent from the field for the game. Missouri's reserves outscored its counterparts 27-18.

Kasey Cunningham had 11 points and six rebounds for the Trojans, who led 43-37 at halftime. Southern Cal also outrebounded Missouri 39-34.
