Rutgers vs Georgetown

Otto Porter Jr. has been the driving force for Georgetown all season. That's never been more true than during the team's current winning streak.

Porter and the seventh-ranked Hoyas look to match the program's longest run in Big East play with an 11th straight victory Saturday night against a visiting Rutgers squad that has not had much recent success in this series.

Georgetown (22-4, 12-3) is coming off a pair of impressive road wins, fueled by Porter. He played all 40 minutes and set career highs with 33 points and five steals while also grabbing eight rebounds as the Hoyas snapped then-No. 8 Syracuse's 38-game home win streak with a 57-46 victory last Saturday.

The sophomore forward followed that performance by scoring on a driving layup with 9.5 seconds remaining in the second overtime to help Georgetown erase a seven-point deficit over the final 2:03 of Wednesday's 79-78 win against Connecticut.

Porter played a career-high 49 minutes versus the Huskies, finishing with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. He shot 19 for 31 (61.3 percent) in the past two, going 8 for 14 from 3-point range, as Georgetown maintained its one-game lead over No. 10 Louisville and 22nd-ranked Marquette in the conference.

"Some people when they get hot like that, they'll be like, 'Get me the ball. Get me the ball.' And he doesn't do it like that," teammate Nate Lubick said. "He really just stays in the game. ... He realizes that he's hot. We realize that he's hot. That's how we play. We're going to play through him when he's scoring the ball like that."

Porter is averaging team bests of 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 51.1 percent from the field - second in the Big East - and 46.8 from beyond the arc. He's scoring 18.9 points per game during the win streak, making 52.1 percent of his shots and hitting 3s at a 51.2 percent clip.

"Otto Porter is every day. He's steady. ... He wants to win," coach John Thompson III said.

Porter had 15 of his 19 points in the second half, including 10 straight over the final 5:42, and grabbed a season high-tying 14 rebounds as Georgetown escaped with a 69-63 win at Rutgers on Feb. 9.

The Scarlet Knights (13-13, 4-11) ended a six-game skid by beating Seton Hall 57-55 three days later, but they've since dropped three straight, falling 76-72 at home to Providence last Saturday.

Rutgers held a 33-23 advantage with 4:41 left before halftime, but Providence scored 19 straight points over the final 4:16 to take a nine-point lead at intermission.

"We had a good effort, but in the Big East, that's not good enough," coach Mike Rice said. "You need to fight for 40 minutes and be consistent. We didn't have it tonight."

Dane Miller came off the bench to lead Rutgers with 17 points and reserve Kadeem Jack scored a career-high 15 while grabbing 10 rebounds. The starters combined for 33 points and shot 12 of 38 (31.3 percent).

The Hoyas, who won 11 Big East games in a row during the 2006-07 season, have won three straight and 11 of 12 against the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers has dropped 10 consecutive meetings as the visiting team.
