Oral Roberts vs Wisconsin

While Frank Kaminsky dominated the headlines with a record-setting performance earlier this week, Wisconsin is far from a one-man show.

The No. 12 Badgers try to open 6-0 for the second time in three seasons Saturday night when they host Oral Roberts.

After scoring a combined 10 points in the first two games and 16 at Green Bay last Saturday, Kaminsky broke out with a school-record 43 in Tuesday's 103-85 victory over North Dakota. The 7-foot junior came back down to earth with 14 two nights later in an 88-64 rout of Bowling Green.

Kaminsky was one of six players to score in double figures for Wisconsin, which shot 54.9 percent and made 12 of 20 from 3-point range. Ben Brust led the way with 19 and was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and Sam Dekker added 14.

"You kind of have to approach this team as who are we going to take away today, and who are we going to focus on?" Dekker said. "But there's always going to be two, three, four other guys who are going to be able to hit a big shot or make a play. We have four, five guys that any night could easily lead our team in scoring."

After averaging just 65.0 points to rank ninth in the Big Ten in 2012-13, the Badgers have posted 81.0 per game thus far.

"If we can get something in transition, we're going to take it, and if not, you're going to guard because we're going to try to get a really good shot," coach Bo Ryan said.

While its offense is already clicking, Wisconsin is allowing an average of 68.6 points after giving up 59.0 or less in each of the previous seven seasons.

"I definitely don't think we're happy at all with our defensive performance," guard Josh Gasser said. "Too many points in the paint, too many uncontested layups, easy buckets we're not accustomed to giving up. We're still working through some things. I think it's better than last game, but not where we want to be."

The Badgers will try to come out with a stronger defensive display as they go for their first win over Oral Roberts (2-2). The Golden Eagles hold a 2-0 edge in the series, but these schools haven't met since 1978.

Oral Roberts is coming off Thursday's 72-55 loss at Saint Louis. Shawn Glover had 18 points for the Golden Eagles, who took a three-point lead into halftime before coming undone over the final 20 minutes.

That loss may have come at a huge cost for Oral Roberts, which saw leading scorer Obi Emegano go down with what appeared to be a serious knee injury early on. Emegano put up 23.3 points over the first three games before scoring six in seven minutes against the Billikens.

"It didn't look good," coach Scott Sutton said. "Devastating blow. ... Obi did so many great things for this team."

While the Golden Eagles figure to be short-handed, Sutton is looking forward to Saturdays' challenge.

"We get an opportunity to go play a Top 25 team," he said.

Oral Roberts fell 89-64 at then-No. 4 Arizona on Dec. 18 in its only matchup against a ranked opponent last season.
