Binghamton vs Syracuse

Syracuse may be ranked fourth, but it still felt it had something to prove the last time out.

Binghamton will likely feel that way after making the hour-long trip to the Carrier Dome.

The Orange are looking to capitalize on a meeting with the overmatched Bearcats and extend their non-conference home winning streak to 48 on Saturday night.

Syracuse (8-0) has won at least the first eight games of a season for the sixth straight time, outscoring opponents by an average of 13.2 points in 2013-14.

Still, the Orange felt they needed to validate their lofty status Tuesday, and they defeated Indiana 69-52 at home while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor.

"We wanted to come out and prove to everyone that we're a good team," said guard Trevor Cooney, who had 21 points while hitting 5 of 9 3-pointers.

Coach Jim Boeheim was more impressed with his team's ability to bounce back physically after winning the Maui Invitational six days earlier by beating then-No. 18 Baylor 74-67.

"Coming back from Hawaii, I thought the way everybody held their legs was pretty good," Boeheim said. "Our energy level was pretty good."

Syracuse has had few issues at the Carrier Dome, winning 47 straight against non-conference foes by an average of 24.3 points.

Cooney, averaging 15.1 points, and fellow guard Tyler Ennis may play a big part in extending that run. Ennis is averaging 18.7 points and 7.0 assists while connecting on 61.3 percent from the field over the past three games.

"He is a great point guard his eyes are always up, his head is always up and he is looking to make the right play no matter what," Cooney said. "He makes our job a lot easier. All we have to do is find the open spots and he will find us."

The Orange have won all four meetings with Binghamton - all at the Carrier Dome - by an average of 33.5 points. They took the latest matchup 86-56 on Dec. 11, 2004.

It would seem unlikely that the Bearcats (2-6) will end that streak since they've lost all nine games against ranked opponents since joining Division I in 2001. They've been outscored by an average of 33.4 points in those matchups, including a 67-39 defeat at then-No. 3 Michigan in the most recent Dec. 11.

Binghamton beat Mount St. Mary's 74-70 on the road Wednesday, shooting a season-high 53.2 percent from the floor - 6 of 10 from beyond the arc - while ending a four-game slide. That performance was a vast improvement after the Bearcats shot 41.5 percent in Sunday's 93-64 home loss to Colgate.

"They're really resilient," coach Tommy Dempsey told the team's official website. "I'm proud that after getting blown out on Sunday ... to see us pick ourselves back up like this. They have such mental toughness."

Jordan Reed had 17 points with eight rebounds against the Mountaineers after managing a career-low one point while missing all eight attempts from the floor three days earlier.

Marlon Beck II has totaled 33 points while sinking 11 of 20 shots - 7 of 11 from long range - over the past two games.
