Connecticut vs Washington

After Connecticut suffered its first loss of the season against a team from the Pac-12, it has a chance to bounce back while facing another Sunday.

Making their first true road appearance of 2013-14, the No. 10 Huskies will try to remain perfect versus a Washington team that last beat a ranked opponent at home exactly four years ago.

Off to the school's best start in three seasons and riding a 13-game winning streak against the Pac-12, UConn (9-1) couldn't overcome a horrendous second half in Wednesday's 53-51 loss to Stanford in Hartford.

After pulling out one-point victories over Maryland, Indiana and then-No. 15 Florida, and beating Boston College by two, the Huskies couldn't come through against the Cardinal.

"We'll learn from this," said forward DeAndre Daniels, who had a team-high 15 points and blocked four shots.

UConn came in shooting 46.5 percent from 3-point range and had hit a season-high 14 during a 95-68 rout of Maine on Dec. 6 in its previous game. The Huskies went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc in the first half to lead by 10 at the break Wednesday, but were shut down by Stanford's stifling zone defense over the final 20 minutes.

They went 5 of 31 from the field and missed all 12 3-point attempts while being outscored 25-13 after the break. Star guard Shabazz Napier (15.0 points per game) finished with 12 points and went 4 of 13 from the floor, including 2 of 7 from 3-point range, and missed three times in the final 40 seconds.

"We're not going to have it all the time when (Napier's) going to be the hero of the game and knock down a shot," Daniels said.

"We're going to have nights when we're not shooting very well. So, that's when we have to do other things - pass, get easy layups, get to the free throw line - and that's what we didn't do (Wednesday)."

A loser in three of its last four true non-conference road contests, UConn must regroup while traveling cross-country to face Washington (6-4) for the first time at its on-campus arena.

Napier and fellow guards Ryan Boatright and Omar Calhoun combined for 39 points to help UConn improve to 4-0 against the other Huskies with a 61-53 home victory last season.

Washington, which was held to a season-low 29.7 percent shooting in that contest, has shot 51.9 percent during victories over Idaho State and Tulane to follow a 70-63 defeat at then-No. 24 San Diego State on Dec. 8.

The west-coast Huskies have averaged 88.0 points during a four-game home winning streak that followed an 86-72 loss to UC Irvine there Nov. 14.

Senior guard C.J. Wilcox averaged 23.8 points on 47.8 percent shooting in the first six games but 16.5 while making 39.7 percent of his shots over the last four. He scored 15, but went 4 of 14 from the field in Tuesday's 73-62 victory at Tulane.

Wilcox missed 10 of 12 shots and went 1 of 6 from 3-point range to finish with a season-low five points versus UConn last season.

Washington has dropped 10 straight against Top 25 opponents since a 77-75 overtime victory over then-No. 16 Arizona on March 12, 2011. It beat then-No. 19 Texas A&M 73-64 on Dec. 22, 2009, for its most recent home win over a ranked foe.
