ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Larry Blair scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half to lift Liberty to a 65-48 victory over Canisius on Thursday night in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout.
Liberty (1-2) pulled away in the second half as Jason Sarchet scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Blair's 3-pointer started a 17-4 run that put the Flames up 51-34 with 6:58 remaining. Leo Lightbourne had 11 rebounds for Liberty.
Richard Jones led the Golden Griffins with 15 points.
Canisius (1-1) took a 14-9 lead in the first half on a basket by Darnell Wilson. But David Dees scored all eight of his points in a 15-5 Liberty run that put the Flames up 24-19 with 6:30 remaining.
Canisius didn't attempt a free throw in the first half and didn't make one until 3:37 in the second half. The Golden Griffins finished 3-of-11 from the free throw line and 3-of-18 in 3-point attempts.
