NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) The College of Charleston went on a 15-2 run midway through the second half to defeat Charleston Southern 56-41 Friday night.
Tony Mitchell scored a career-high 23 points and Stanley Jackson added 17 points and eight rebounds to pace the Cougars (1-1).
Nathan Ball led the Buccaneers (0-1) with 11 points and seven rebounds. He scored 10 of his points in the first half and Charleston Southern went into the half down by three at 25-22.
A Mario Williams' layup with 12 minutes left in the game brought the Buccaneers to 32-26 but that was as close as they would get as the College of Charleston went on its decisive run over a three minute span.
Mitchell scored 11 consecutive points in the run, including a pair of 3-pointers and a conventional three-point play. Dontaye Draper's basket with 9:03 left gave the Cougars a 47-28 lead.
