HOUSTON (AP) Andre Owens scored 26 points to lead Houston to an 85-72 victory over McNeese State on Friday night.
Owens was 8-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-10 from 3-point range for Houston (2-1). He hit all six of his free throws. Lanny Smith added 15 points and had five assists.
Edward Garriet led McNeese State (0-1) with 26 points, hitting 8-of-10 3-pointers. His eight 3-pointers tied a school record.
The 85 points was the most by Houston since the Cougars defeated Tulane 85-81 on Feb. 19, 2002.
Houston took advantage of 20 McNeese State turnovers, scoring 27 points.
Houston led 32-26 at the half.
