NEW YORK (AP) Chad McKnight's putback basket at the buzzer lifted Morehead State to a 66-65 overtime victory over Mount St. Mary's in the opening game Friday night of the inaugural Columbia Classic.
Morehead State (1-0) advanced to the tournament championship game against either Longwood or Columbia.
Charles Cook hit a pair of 3-pointers for Mount St. Mary's (0-1). The first shot tied the game at 60 with 21 seconds remaining in regulation. The second basket gave the Mountaineers a 65-60 lead with 2:53 left in overtime.
But Morehead scored the final six points of the game, rallying for the victory.
Ramon Kelly's 3-pointer cut the deficit to 65-64 with 23.8 seconds remaining. Mychal Kearse missed two free throws, setting the stage for McKnight's winning shot.
Josh Reed missed a layup, but his teammate McKnight grabbed the rebound and put a shot in as time expired.
McKnight led the Eagles with 14 points, and Kelly had 13.
Landy Thompson, who fouled out in the first minute of overtime, had 20 points for the Mountaineers.
