COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Antoine Wright scored 16 points and Joseph Jones had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Texas A&M to an 89-56 victory over North Carolina A&T on Friday.
Texas A&M (1-0) took advantage of A&T's 28 fouls, 16 of which came in the first half. A&M hit 27 of 37 free throws.
A&M also benefited from its new-look aggressive defense installed by new coach Billy Gillispie, grabbing 27 turnovers that resulted in 33 points.
Sean Booker led AT&T (0-4) with 19 points. A&T attempted 34 3-pointers, but hit only 12. Booker hit 3-of-7.
The 33-point victory was the largest margin of victory for A&M's season opener since the 1981-1982 season when the Aggies defeated St. Edwards by 67 points.
