LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) Chris Vetrano scored 14 points and Jermaine Anderson hit a pair of crucial free throws with 15 seconds left as New Hampshire held off Liberty 59-58 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Liberty's Rashad Robinson hit one of two foul shots with 23 seconds left to pull the Flames within one, 57-56. Mike Christensen rebounded the miss and got the ball to Anderson, whose free throws stretched the lead to 59-56.
David Dees misfired on the potential game-tying 3-pointer with seven seconds left. Leo Lightbourne tipped in Evan Risher's missed jumper with two seconds left for the final margin.
Ben Sturgill had 13 points and 13 rebounds for New Hampshire. Blagoj Janev added 11 points.
Dees led the Flames with 18 points. Rashad Robinson had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Russell Monroe came off the bench to score 10 points.
