ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) Courtney Sims scored 17 points and Dion Harris added 14 to lead four Michigan players in double figures as the Wolverines beat Sacramento State 70-49 Friday night.
Daniel Horton had 13 points and Brent Petway added 11 for the Wolverines (3-0). Michigan, which will play in the preseason NIT semifinals Wednesday against Arizona, played without starters Graham Brown and Lester Abram who were out with mild concussion and sore left shoulder, respectively.
Dashawn Freeman, Alex Bausley and Jason Harris had 9 points apiece for the Hornets, who were playing in their season opener.
After leading 34-31 at halftime, Michigan opened the second half with a 12-5 run. The Wolverines appeared to wear down the Hornets and were able to hold them without a basket for 7:27 while building a 22-point lead.
Sacramento State played a more aggressive game in the first half and was able to erase a 12-point Michigan lead to pull within 28-26 with 1:36 left. They held the Wolverines without a basket for 7:17.
