ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Sean Phaler scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead New Mexico to a 93-53 win over Western New Mexico on Friday night.
New Mexico remains undefeated at 4-0, marking the team's best start since the 1998-99 season. Western dropped to 0-2.
Phaler was 5 of 10 from the field and hit four of his seven 3-point attempts. Teammates David Chiotti and Tony Danridge added 10 points apiece, while Danny Granger - one of the top players in the Mountain West Conference - finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Mike Sells was the only scoring threat for the Mustangs. He scored his team's first five points and the first eight of the second half. He finished with a team-high 13 points.
The Lobos put the game away almost from the opening tip. They scored 10 unanswered points to take a 16-3 lead. Chiotti had six early points on a pair of layups and a dunk.
Western had just a 3-pointer and a layup by Sells seven minutes into the game. By then, the Mustangs trailed 19-5.
Granger grabbed 10 rebounds in the first half, helping New Mexico to a 24-13 advantage on the boards.
