DAYTON, Ohio (AP) Michael Haney had 20 points and eight rebounds, pacing four players in double figures in Eastern Kentucky's 73-66 win over Dayton on Sunday.
Matt Witt backed Haney with 17 points and five assists for the Colonels, who harassed Dayton into shooting 35 percent from the field. Zach Ingles made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.
Monty Scott led Dayton with 14 points.
Eastern Kentucky took control early in the season opener for both teams. Julian Mascoll's basket with 12:28 left in the first half gave the Colonels a 22-17 lead and sparked a 13-2 run.
Ingles capped the run with a 3-pointer to give Eastern Kentucky a 33-19 lead.
The Flyers got within eight on a free throw by Trent Meacham in the second half, but Haney made a jumper and Darnell Dialls hit two free throws to increase the advantage to 59-47 with 6:09 left.
Brian Roberts came off the bench to score 10 points in 17 minutes for Dayton.
Eastern Kentucky's Jason McLeish had 13 points.
