FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) Junior guard Pooh Jeter scored a game-high 26 points, including eight during a crucial run that gave Portland University a 74-60 victory over Georgia Southern in Sunday's fifth-place game of the Top of the World Classic at the Carlson Center.
The Pilots (2-1) trailed by as much as nine in the first half before rallying behind a 10-0 run that helped push them to a 28-25 halftime lead.
Portland pressed out to a marginal lead early in the second half, then Jeter hit eight of nine points for the Pilots during a 9-2 run that pushed the team's lead to 49-39.
Georgia Southern (1-2), suffering through a poor shooting game that included a 1-of-20 performance from the 3-point line, was never able to threaten Portland after that.
Guards Darren Cooper and Jeremiah Dominguez helped seal the win for the Pilots by combining to hit 17 of 17 free-throw attempts in the second half. Cooper added 16 points for Portland and Dreshawn Vance, 5 of 6 from the free-throw line, chipped in 13.
Elton Nesbitt led Georgia Southern with 17 points but hit none of his nine 3-point attempts. Jean Francois contributed 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Louis Graham added 11.
