MIAMI (AP) Loren Stokes hit a short running jump shot with 5 seconds left in the game as Hofstra rallied to defeat Florida International 69-67 on Sunday afternoon.
Stokes' game-winner came after Florida International's Ivan Almonte tied the game with a bank shot with 37 second left to play.
Antoine Agudio led Hofstra (1-0) with 20 points while Stokes scored 16 points and had five assists. The two combined for 29 points in the second half.
FIU (1-1) led 31-22 at halftime after Hofstra shot 25 percent from the field and made just 3-of-16 from 3-point range. Agudio heated up in the second half, converting five of Hofstra's six 3-pointers to help close the gap.
A pair of Kenny Harris free throws tied the game at 61 with 4:28 to play, and a Stokes layup with 3:14 remaining, gave the Pride their first lead of the second half.
Almonte led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Byron Burnett scored 16 points and Junior Matias added 15 for FIU.
Carlos Rivera scored 13 points for Hofstra and Aurimas Kienza added nine points, 10 rebounds and four steals.
