FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) Guard Jaycee Carroll ended a scoring drought of nearly 12 minutes by hitting a 3-pointer to help boost Utah State to a 64-57 victory over Northwestern Sunday in the third-place game of the Top of the World Classic.
A crowd of 860 watched as the Aggies (2-1) struggled for 11 minutes and 17 seconds between field goals, which allowed the Wildcats (1-2) to creep back into a game they never led.
Utah State led by as much as 11 in the first half before taking a 36-31 lead into the intermission.
About midway through the second half, Northwestern's Verdan Vukusic hit a 3-pointer and the Wildcats converted a pair of layups to tie the score 47-47.
But Carroll hit his third 3-pointer of the game, Nate Harris then converted a three-point play and the Aggies never looked back.
Carroll led Utah State with 17 points, Harris added 14 and Spencer Nelson added 10.
Vukusic and T.J. Parker led Northwestern with 16 points apiece, while Davor Duvancic added 12.
