SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Marquin Chandler scored four of his 18 points, including the game-winner, in the final 32 seconds helping San Jose State beat Montana State 65-64 Wednesday.
Chandler, who also had a career-high six blocked shots, hit a short jumper with two seconds left for the margin of victory in the teams' first meeting in 11 years. Michael McFadden added 16 points and Kareem Guilbeaux had 11.
Branden Miller scored 22 points to lead the Bobcats, which lost its 15th straight game played in California. Ja'Ron Jefferson had 17 points and Marvin Moss added 13.
The Bobcats (0-3) played without junior point guard Frank Brown, who was suspended indefinitely on Tuesday pending an investigation into an alleged statutory rape.
The Spartans (1-1) took a short-lived 36-35 lead early in the second half when Matt Misko hit a short jumper.
Montana State started pulling away after Miller and Casey Durham hit consecutive jumpers to give the Bobcats a 48-43 edge with 13:42 remaining to play.
San Jose State erased a nine-point deficit in the final five minutes and took a 61-60 lead when Alex Elam hit a short jumper with 1:34 left.
Miller made one of two free throws to tie it at 61-all after San Jose State was assessed a technical foul for calling an excessive timeout. He also hit a 3-pointer 20 seconds later to give the Bobcats a one-point edge and set up Chandler's winning basket.
Guilbeaux scored two quick baskets to highlight San Jose State's 13-3 run that propelled the Spartans to a 30-18 advantage with 7:37 left in the half.
The Bobcats held San Jose State scoreless the final 5:49 of the half and rallied, with the help of six 3-pointers, to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
