AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Toney Douglas scored 38 points and had 10 rebounds, leading Auburn to a 92-78 victory over Nicholls State on Wednesday night.
Quinnel Brown had a career-high 23 points and Ian Young added 17 for the Tigers (3-0). Douglas, who tied the Auburn freshman record on a free throw with 21 seconds left, shot 13-of-22 from the field and hit 7-of-13 3-pointers. Young was perfect in six free throws.
Stefan Blaszczynski led the Colonels (0-2) with 24 points. Jason Wilkins scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds. Willie Depron added 12 and B.J. Searles added 10.
The Colonels cut Auburn's lead to a 42-40 halftime advantage after a 7-2 run within the last 2 minutes of the first half. Auburn opened the second period on a 25-17 run and sealed the victory on a 17-2 spurt in the final minutes of play.
The Tigers held the Colonels to 37.5 percent shooting in the second half. The Tigers had 50 percent shooting overall and Nicholls State finished with 46 percent.
